Student Records

Records can be maintained showing which games and topics or word lists have been attempted for each session. Speed, accuracy and errors are also logged. These records can be invaluable in monitoring progress. You may, for example, request students play “Reading Test” and “Spelling Test” on specific lists before and after an intervention or period of practice.  The two sessions can then be viewed and compared (use the “cntrl” key and press on the two dates).

Records will only be stored if you have first registered (“added”) a student: Sign in as a program administrator, go to “Admin” “Add and manage”, and click on “Add student”.

Many schools now  sign every child in  “in bulk”.
Any administrator may then go to “Admin” “Add and manage” “Capture existing student”, and click on the students of interest to them. That administrator can then set work, view and print records and otherwise manage the student’s work.  In version 4, any student may be “captured” by any number of administrators

Once added, students may view their own records by going to “Settings for [their username]”/View games played. Administrators access all student records by signing in as an administrator, going to “Admin /Add and manage students[and staff] / View games played.

Temporary Students:

If a student has not been “added”, then the program will not store their records. They will not be able to have set work, and will not be able to create their own word lists.

The Administrators may handle “temporary students” in two ways:
A) They only want registered students to access the program, and want to prevent all other students from accessing the program:  Sign in as a program administrator, go to “Admin”, and tick the box “No temporary students”.
B) They want every student to have access to the program,  but do not want records of work to be maintained:  Sign in as a program administrator, go to “Admin”, and untick the box “No temporary students”. Any student can then access the program, using any username they choose to make up on each occasion.  This option should be used with caution - a student could freely create any username, including an expletive.

Paper - based records
Some teachers like to use paper-based or Excel spreadsheet-based records. A set of records for the Alpha to Omega lists , in Excel 2002 format, are available here. These may be used within Excel, or printed out for non-electronic use. We suggest that if you wish to use these, you tailor the columns to your own requirements. The sheets have been used for a single pupil (recording where they are for reading, spelling, understanding of vocabulary, ability to sign/vocalise. They have been used equally successfully for recording progress of groups of children.
Similar Excel spreadsheet records for Numbershark are available on request from Support.
