If your network is set to a high level of security, you may need to add our .exe files to the Ranger “Exceptions” list: Details for doing this are within the Ranger documentation. We thank Ranger Support for working with us to confirm the following:
To access Ranger Administrator application on your server, from the top tool bar click Edit -> Settings -> General.
From here you will be given the option to add Exceptions to explorer title checks. You will be allowed to enter a limit of 10 entries. Click Add, and add the full path of the location the program is trying to access e.g. \\<servername>\<foldername>
Click ok. Apply your settings, log off the user on the client machines and log them back on. Note: This “exception” requirement is needed as by default Ranger does not allow any users other than administrators to type or browse to any path beginning with “\\”.
We have been further advised that the “exceptions list” may need editing for some levels of secutrity, as follows:
In the Ranger folder on the server there is a file that needs editing (with notepad) called ranger.dat
Towards the end of the file there is an exceptions list section. Add an entry for your NETWORK version of Wordshark or Numbershark:
[DefPathBypassExes]
Count=5
1=clicker5.exe
2=EXCEL.EXE
3=MSACCESS.EXE
4=EXCEL.EXE
5=wordshark3nrun.exe (or numbershark3nrun.exe or numbershark4nrun.exe as appropriate)
If you have the stand-alone CD version, you may also need to allow restricted users to run executable files from the CD drive: This is a slightly more lengthy process, and we suggest that you contact Ranger if unsure how to do this.
Please contact us if your installation does not work well after following these instructions, so that we can work with you to identify any remaining issues and advise whether these may be program or Ranger - related, and if necessary further refine these instructions.
