On all versions:

The most common cause is anti-virus program issues.
There are very few other known conflicts.

Rarely, a soundcard does not refresh its memory correctly. Sign into the computer as Wordshark or Numbershark Administrator. Go to Admin / Advanced Features  /  Refresh Sound Routines regularly.

Very rarely, freezing has been caused by a power failure, a user switching off at the mains, a virus or other cause corrupting one or more files, and an uninstall+reinstall is worth trying, coupled with manually deleting the contents of shark-shared or wordshark-shared.

Very rarely, it has resulted from an almost full hard disk drive.

CD versions:

Freezing is commonly caused by a CD that has scratches or other damage. A replacement can be provided on receipt of the old disk (however damaged!) for a small administration charge. Details

On Network versions, this is usually caused by one of these reasons:

A) one or more program files being corrupted (to test this, try recopying program files to the -public and -program folders from your network install disk)

B) (Versions older than 3.06): By more than one teacher or student logging on with the same user ID at the same time. You will need to contact us for advice. Each student and teacher must have their own unique ID.

C) Wireless networks - Network overload. We recommend you have a client-based install, with only the student shared data on the server. See Network Install manual. Note that versions prior to 3.03 were not designed for use on wireless networks.

NOTE - Versions of Wordshark 3 and 3s and Numbershark 3 earlier than release 3.04 (November 2004) were designed to run  fully from the server  to wired (not wireless) clients, and any attempt to deploy the program files to the client machines is likely to result in file corruption, resulting in freezing.
