FAQ 2: Adding Pupil Names from CSV Files:
Some schools store all their pupil names in a database that can be output as a C.S.V. File for use in other programs.
From version 3.07, click on Admin / Add and manage / Add student / Import list of students.
See “Logging on” for this and other related features.
Earlier versions of Wordshark or Numbershark do not have an "import" function as such from a CSV (Comma Separated Variable) file. However, in Wordshark/Numbershark 3.03 or later, you can save some typing by using your CSV administrative lists as follows:
Ensure your pupils have **unique** usernames within the CSV.
Open Wordshark as a Wordshark administrator, go to add & manage students / add students.
This opens a dialogue box.
Copy your usernames as a CSV list and paste these into the box.
Note that this will set up all students but will NOT allocate them a password. Students can set up a password for themselves whilst in the program, by clicking on “Settings for [name]”. Administrators can re-set children’s passwords.
If more than one adult will be administering Wordshark, we suggest you
A) Sign on as a “whole school” administrator using a unique ID
Add CSV pupil names as above. Sign off as that administrator.
B) Sign on all other staff as administrators, again with unique ID for each. To do this, whilst signed on as program administrator, go to admin/add and manage / create new administrator.
C) Sign on as each of the other administrative users in turn. For each, go to “Admin / add and manage/”Capture existing student”, and click on the children in that person’s class.
Note: We strongly recommend that each member of staff and each pupil is signed on uniquely: If all staff, for example, signed on as "Admin", it would be easy for 2 or more to sign on at the same time. This would potentially result in a file sharing violation and a loss of data.
