In one case, we have seen this message after successful use of the program for some time. The computer was then infected with a virus, and this message was one result. This case was solved by the customer installing a new virus program, removing viruses, uninstalling and reinstalling.

This message more commonly happens if you have just installed the program and are using the single-user CD version:

The most common reason for this message, if you are using Windows XP, is that you installed our program as a "restricted user". Windows XP has a feature by which different users can be given "management" or "Administrator" or "restricted" access to the computer. This can be useful, for example in preventing children from messing with parts of a computer they shouldn't! Unfortunately, as a "restricted user" you cannot properly install our programs. The solution is to ask someone else who has manager or administrator access to uninstall the program, then reinstall it "for all users".
Windows XP HOME users who have enabled “fast switching of accounts” can also occasionally have this problem. The solution is often to go to start/control panel / user accounts / change how users log on and off. Disabling fast switching may sort the problem.
Much more rarely, this situation can also be sorted by changing the mode that the CD transfers information to the computer: This is best carried out by a person with some computer knowledge:
Close down computer.
On restarting, look in BIOS to find which IDE channel the CD drive is on (Primary or Secondary).
Then:
Start / (settings) / Control panel / system / device manager / IDE (ATA ATAPI) Controllers /
Click on as appropriate “Primary” or “Secondary” Channel / Advanced Settings /
Check on the transfer mode for the device, either PIO or DMA.
Try switching to the other mode.
If this does NOT improve the situation after a restart, then change back again.
