For Vista computers with multiple users, this occurs if Vista has created a “virtual store” for each user’s program data. In the following instructions, substitute “Numbershark” for “Wordshark” as appropriate.
1. Sign on as Vista Administrator. Save all required user files to a memory stick or other storage device. To do this, for each user go to C:\Users\[Computer User’s name]\AppData\Local\Virtual Store\Program Files\Wordshark4\Wordshark-shared, and copy the contents.
Note: On many Vista computers, many folders are “hidden” by default. You need to “unhide” the folders. To show it: Go to Start/(right click Explore all users) Organise / Folder and Search Options / “View” tab / Show hidden files and folders.
2. Navigate to C:\Program Files\Wordshark 4\wordshark-shared
3. Right click “wordshark-shared” folder
4. Left click “properties”
5. Select the “sharing” tab
6. Click on “Advanced sharing” (click on continue for windows permissions prompt)
7. “Tick” in the box next to “share this folder” The name should automatically default to wordshark-shared. (It may say wordshark-shared2. Delete the 2 and say yes to remove sharing on the other wordshark-shared folder)
8. Click Apply and OK. You will now be back to the sharing tab.
9. Select the “Security” tab
10. Under “Group or Users Names” click on “Users”, this should now be highlighted to show it has been selected
11. Click on “Edit” (Click continue at Windows permission prompt)
12. Under “Group or Users Names” click on “Users” to highlight
13. In the box underneath “Permissions for Users” Please tick: Modify / Read & execute / Read / Write
14. Click Apply and OK. This will take you back to the security tab again.
15. With “Users” highlighted select “Advanced” at the bottom of the box
16. Select “Users” to highlight and then click “Edit” (click continue at Windows permission prompt)
17. Check that there is no tick next to “Include inheritable permissions from this object’s parent”. Please remove the tick by clicking on it if there is one shown and click ok
18. Close out of the properties box.
19. Delete ALL the Wordshark 4 folders and sub folders from ALL the users’ virtual stores: C:\Users\Computer User’s name\AppData\Local\Virtual Store\Program Files. This may be “hidden” and you may need to show all hidden files and folders.
20. Delete the current shortcut icon on the desktop
21. Go to C:\Program Files\Wordshark 4\wordshark-programs
22. Right click wordshark4.exe in the wordshark-programs folder
23. Left click “send to – desktop (create shortcut)
24. Close the window and go to the icon on the desktop
25. Right click the icon and left click “properties”
26. Left click in the start-in box and amend the address to “C\Program Files\Wordshark 4\wordshark-shared” (This should just be a case of changing the last word from –programs” to –shared”
27. Run the program and sign on as a new user with a name never used before, for example testing or testadmin. It should prompt you to become an administrator. Say yes and enter the program
28. Exit from the program and check that the new user has been saved in to the correct location. If it has then copy all the user files needed from the memory stick in to the wordshark-shared folder.
