it is usually because the program icon on the dock has been created incorrectly (e.g. If the program has subsequently been moved to a different location). As an easy “first try”, delete the icon from the dock, go to Applications / Wordshark (or Numbershark), find the icon and click. If the program starts OK, then move this icon direct to the dock.

The error message occasionally happens if the Mac has multiple users, and for some users the wordshark-shared folder is set to “Read” only. Normal install methods will give this folder read and write permission.

You can look at the permissions of any Mac folder by looking at the bottom of the "Info" panel (either highlight the folder and press Apple key and 'i' key, or press "Ctrl" and click on the file/folder and choose "Get Info" from the context menu). If you are not the administrator, some of the options might be greyed out. You may have to click the little padlock picture and type in an administrator password to make permission changes as follows below. With the network version, check for inherited permissions from a parent folder, and in Workgroup Manager, under Server Management Preferences, for all groups of users “Go to Folder” must be enabled for all users.
