We have  occasional reports of Mac users with “Error Code 10”.

This  usually results if you:
-  attempt to run the program by clicking on the program icon on the CD:
-   attempt to copy the program from the CD into the hard drive root, instead of the Applications Folder.
Having installed, click the similar icon in the dock or Applications Folder.

If you are using v4.04 or higher, with OSX 10.4 or higher, you may be given an error referring to “Admin/Advanced Features”:

NETWORK VERSION and some standalone machines with additional security/restricted users:

A small number of Mac networks and standalone machines have configuration  & security policies which have resulted in  Error Code 10. This error flags up a permissions problem  for one or more groups of users, relating to the [word][number]shark-shared folder.

All users need read/write/modify/delete permissions for the folder & files within the folder. Whilst this is normally set by the program, in these cases, the files default to “read only” for all except for the person who created these user files.

Administrators can view permissions info on folders and files by selecting them and pressing the apple key (four-leaved clover key) and the 'i' key simultaneously. This brings up the Info panel for the selected item. At the bottom of this there is an "Ownership and Permissions" section which normally give the chance of resetting the permissions.

It is possible to add students, then manually set each individual newly created student file within the folder to  read/write/modify/delete  for all users, BUT this then has to be done every time a user is added, which is not usually a workable option.
