Mac Issues: Error Code 10
We have found a small number of Mac stand-alone computers whose configuration & security policies have resulted in Error Code 10. This error flags up a permissions problem for one or more groups of users, relating to the [word][number]shark-shared folder.
All users need read/write/modify/delete permissions for the folder & files within the folder. In these cases, the settings mean that files are set to “read only” for all except for the person who created these user files. It is possible to add students, then manually set the newly created student files within the folder to read/write/modify/delete for all users.
From version 4.04, the Error Code 10 will ask you to sign on as the computer administrator, AND as the program administrator, and follow the instructions given in the menu item Admin/Advanced Features for Experienced Users/. Please contact us if you have a version older than 4.04.
NETWORK VERSION (and some standalone machines used in schools):
We have found a small number of Mac networks whose configuration & security policies have resulted in Error Code 10. This error flags up a permissions problem for one or more groups of users, relating to the [word][number]shark-shared folder.
All users need read/write/modify/delete permissions for the folder & files within the folder. In these cases, the network settings mean that files are set to “read only” for all except for the person who created these user files.

A more user-friendly solution is:
1) Open "Workgroup Manager" which is the network controller program on Macs. We need to use this to change the shared permissions.
In Workgroup Manager:
Click on SHARING tab along the top
Click on SHARE POINTS and select wordshark-shared
Click on ACCESS tab over on right
If any are “Read Only” change to “Read and Write” for this folder.
Click "Users & Groups" button (bottom middle-ish) - a slide tray should pop out.
Click
on Groups (the picture with multiple heads)
Drag groups (everyone who will be using
the program) from here into the ACCESS CONTROL LIST pane.
Set "Permissions" on each
to "Read & Write"
Click Save button along the bottom right.
