Wordshark and Numbershark work in similar ways. Most of the following error messages apply to both programs. These error messages are based on Wordshark release 3s.05 and later. Earlier releases have minor differences.
Java Virtual Machine Launcher” states “Could not find the main class. Program will exit.” Or “Cannot find main class:” (After apparently successful install)
The error you are receiving means that the program is unable to either;
1) find the files and folders or 2) run executable files from the location the program has been installed
1. This occurs on a small minority of machines that cannot cope with spaces in file names, so a path such as \\wordshark4 will work but \\wordshark 4 does not. As a first fix, remove any spaces from the path. Note for techs: This can occur whether or not quotation marks have been included in the path
2. This can also occur if you have a 64-bit machine and are using a release earlier than 4.06, which was the first to support 64-bit machines: If this is the case, then you will need to upgrade to our latest release.
3. This has also occurred in a small number of Vista & Win 7 machines where “User Account Control” is switched on, resulting in the OS creating individual virtual stores. Switching off user account control resolves the issue. If you need to have user account control on AND experience this message, please contact Support, requesting instructions on how to remove virtual stores for our programs. If you are using Vista without “User Account Control” switched on, click here.
4. This error message also occurs in several versions of our programs in situations where the user does not have read/write/modify/delete access to the numbershark-shared or wordshark-shared folder, and to files within it. This is a particular problem with XP, where an XP update removed these permissions for folders within c:/program files.
As a first step, for single user CD versions, ensure you are logged on as the system admin. Uninstall. Restart the computer. Try reinstalling, but do not accept the default locations. Instead, when the install process advises where the program is to be installed click on “change” and install into:
For XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data
For Vista or Win7: C:\Users\Public
This error message on network versions can be quite complex to trouble-shoot. Check the networks tab if you have a non-standard network. For any network, please look at the following two links, then contact us if these do not provide the answer.
