On Vista Windows operating system: Vista may warn that “The color scheme has been changed to Vista Basic: A running program isn’t compatible with certain visual elements of Windows”. The colours used in our programs prior to 4.07 do not work with Vista advanced graphics effects. However, the program and computer automatically switch and work with the inbuilt simpler colour scheme. Release 4.07 (like later releases) does handle Vista advanced graphics, so this message does not appear from 4.07 onwards. On all versions, on any Windows operating system: The program installs, but when you try to run it, it freezes at the login box (or the login box disappears, or is difficult to type into) OR menus fail to drop down OR blocky bits of program are left all over the screen OR the screen is off-set to left or right. In Vista or Win7, there may be problems typing or in using the mouse. This is normally because the computer has a graphics card or driver which is running to a different standard to the norm required by Java programs, or needs updating. Apply the appropriate patch below. If this fails, try right-clicking the desktop icon, choose the “Compatibility” tab and choose “Run in compatibility mode for XPsp3”. Computers with several user accounts: Proceed as below for “Single-user computers”, but apply this utility instead of “fixgraphics.exe”: Single-user computers: Look on the root of your program disk for “fixgraphics.exe”. Whilst signed on as computer administrator, on the affected computer (not the server!) run this program, tick the box and exit. If you are unable to find fixgraphics.exe, then click here to download the file (268kb so please be patient if you have a dial-up connection). We suggest you download to your desktop for easy access. Once used and applied, it may safely be deleted from your desktop. Fixgraphics.exe will place an empty file on your computer, on the root of the c:/program files directory, as a marker to Numbershark or Wordshark. It is worth checking that this file has been added successfully if the fix does not appear to work. Our programs then run without Java DirectDraw or Direct3D, which some graphics cards are unable to handle. The computer is not affected in any other way.
Note for RM Window Box (tm) users:
Click for advice for Window Box users needing to use fixgraphics.exe Dolphin Supernova: We are aware that running Supernova version 6.51 in combination with either Wordshark or Numbershark, you may experience intermittent freezing, text or graphics "left behind" or problems with pulldown menus. These problems cease when Supernova is closed. We have found that running our “Fixgraphics” utility overcomes this conflict, allowing our programs and Supernova to work together. Note that other versions of Supernova may be similarly affected. Please visit www.dolphincomputeraccess.com and try the most recent version of this software to determine whether Dolphin have been able to fix the problem. Dophin Computer Access Ltd has confirmed that the screen corruption may alternatively be resolved as follows: 1. Open the Supernova control panel with LEFT CONTROL+SPACEBAR 2. Open the "Configuration" menu with ALT+C 3. CURSOR DOWN to "Video Engine" and ENTER 4. TAB to the "Direct Draw / GDI+ compatibility mode" checkbox and press SPACEBAR to select this. 5. TAB to "OK" and ENTER. The screen will go blank for a moment then the display will return correctly.
