Wordshark and Numbershark work in similar ways. Most of the following error messages apply to both programs.  These error messages are based on Wordshark release 4.04 and later. Earlier versions have fewer error messages to help with trouble-shooting.

Error code 10 "Please check that you have read and write access to: pathtosharedfolder"

A Java "FileNotFoundException" occurs when trying to read or write to a file in the shared folder. A “FileNotFoundException” can occur if the file exists but does not have the correct permissions.

POSSIBLE REASONS & SOLUTIONS:
Check all classes of users have read, write, modify, delete permissions for the [word][number]shark-shared folder.  This is the folder where the program stores the records of games played, word lists, and details of any work set for students, along with individual data files for each user, in an encrypted format.

Sharing and Security

How to check and set permissions for this folder:

1.
Sign on  with computer administrator rights and open Windows Explorer.
2.
Look for the folder. This is normally inside the folder c:/program files/[number][word]shark/
3.
Right click this folder.
4.
Click on the “Sharing” tab, and click “Share this folder” and “Allow other users to change my files”.
5.
Apply.
6.
This is often sufficient to allow the program to function correctly. If the error continues, start as before, and this time click the “security” tab.  What to do If this is not showing
7.
For each type of user in turn, click “Advanced”
8.
Set “Special Permissions” to allow “Read”,  “Write”, “Modify” “Delete”.
9.
Apply.
10.
Repeat for each group or user name that might use the program.
