You need to sign on as an administrator to carry out many of the “administrative functions” such as adding new users, changing student passwords, selecting lists of work or games, and much more.   We always advise having more than one administrator. For added security in v4, schools should ensure staff working directly with children are “sub administrators” who do not have the right to change passwords across the school. details

Any administrator  who knows their password can sign on, go to Admin / Add and manage students .  On the next screen, they can:
a) Bottom left:  create new administrators, view other administrators and change their names or passwords.
b) Middle left:  “Change student settings”:  Click on any student to change password, remove password, or rename the student

If you have only one administrator, and that person loses their password, then you  have two choices:

FAQ 5:

We have lost our password.

CHOICE 1: You need your existing student records, word lists or other data that you want to preserve:

First, check which release of Wordshark or Numbershark you have, e.g. “Wordshark 3s.03”.  On later releases, this is listed on the single user CD and on the back  cover of the CD case. If unsure, open the program. On the first screen, go to file/version.

Version 3: Release 3.00 to 3.05
If you wish to retain student & administrator data (records and wordlists), please call or email us, for the relatively complex instructions.

Releases Number/Wordshark 3s.06 and later,
& all Version 4 releases:
(These state the release on the CD and under file/version)
Start up the program. On the opening screen, click File / List of administrators and File / Version.
Contact us by phone or email, with a note of:
a) Your phone contact details, as we may  wish to verify  your identity  before issuing password replacements.
b) The administrator(s) exactly as listed
c) The version (e.g. 4.03)
d) Whether the listed administrator is a student.

We will provide a bypass admin password OR a different bypass which automatically changes the user from “Administrator” to “Student” status.

You then sign on with the administrator name and bypass password.

You will then EITHER
-  move straight to the admin screen: Go to “settings for [username]”/Change Password menu to give yourself a more user-friendly password.
OR
- will be asked to sign your name and provide a password (the child administrator has been changed to student status)
CHOICE 2: You are happy to start again “as new” with all user files, data and  settings deleted:

CD versions:
Empty the contents of the following folder (NOT the folder itself):
Wordshark releases v3.00 - 3s.03:   “shark-shared”
Numbershark releases 3.00-3.03: “nshark-shared”
Wordhark 3s.04 - 09 and all version 4: “wordshark-shared”
Numbershark 3s.04-08 and all version 4: “numbershark-shared”

The folder may be stored anywhere, but common default locations include:
C:\All Users\Application Data\(foldername)
C:\Program Files\(foldername)
C:\Program Files\[wordshark][numbershark]\(foldername)
C:Users\[user account]\App Data\Local\Virtual Store\Program files (x86)\ (foldername)

Network version:
First ensure you still have your licence sheet - you may need to input your licence details.
To locate where the data is stored, right-click your desktop icon / Properties / Start-in . Note the server file location. This should be one of the folder names listed above for the CD version. If it is not, we advise you to contact us. Check the program is not running. Empty the contents of the older (NOT the folder itself).  Restart the program. The first user will be invited to become an administrator.
