One important feature within Wordshark is the ability to create your own word lists. Once created, you may then add your own sounds (this may be the word, a definition, a clue, or other sound). The feature is normally available in the “Settings for [username]” menu. There are two conditions where the feature is greyed out and not available: 1. If the user is a “Temporary Student” If the user sees the message “temporary student” on signing onto the program, they are not registered. Temporary students are unable to save anything, including word lists, so are unable to create word lists. Solution: A Wordshark administrator must sign on and register the student : Menu - Admin/Add and Manage/Add student 2. If the user has been set work Administrators can set work for students. If a student is set work, there is a reasonable expectation that the teacher may not want the student to get round this by creating their own (perhaps easier) wordlists. Menu - Admin/Add and manage/select word lists and games There are, however, ways in which “own word lists” may be created:
FAQ 15: “Create and change own word lists” is greyed out
Version 3: As the student has been set work, they may not create their own word lists. The teacher has chosen what they are to do, and the student may not bypass this. Solution 1: The Wordshark administrator should sign in, go to Admin/Add and Manage/Remove set work, then click on that student to remove their set work. Note that the student will then have access to all games, and all lists. Solution 2: The Wordshark administrator should sign in and create the required word list in their own account. The administrator can then go to Admin/Add and Manage/Select word lists and games. From here, they may add the word list into the student’s “Word list basket” just as other word lists are added. The word list may be found under “Administrator’s own word lists”
Version 4: If the student has been set work by a teacher, they may not create their own word lists when carrying out that work. Solution 1: The student will normally be able to go to the red menu “Which teacher’s work?”, and select “Other”. With this “teacher” chosen, they have access to all games and word lists, and ARE able to create their own word lists. Solution 2: If “Other” is not available, then the Wordshark administrator has ticked the option “Admin/Enforce Set Work”. The student only has access to work that has been allocated to them by one or more administrators or subadministrators, and so may not create their own word lists. In this case, the teacher may create a word list and allocate this to the student, as described for version 3, solution 2. Note: The option “Admin/Enforce Set Work” is not available in the earliest releases of v4.
