Known Issues: Details Lost
3. Details Lost
Student details are not saved (PC versions) or licence details requested every time
If signed on as a “Temporary Student”, details are not saved.
Otherwise they should be saved. If you find that you have to constantly type in licence details or student names or wordlists, or students find their work is not being stored, then you have a problem either with folder permissions or with the paths in the “start-in” or “target”. Check these.
Installing the Stand-Alone CD: Ensure that you were signed on as computer administrator when you installed the program, and that you chose “install for all users on this computers” if given this option.
Network Managers: Check folder permissions and paths. If you have a non-standard Windows network, consult the network handbook.
Folder Permissions:
Numbershark-shared or wordshark-shared
(nshark shared or shark-shared in early versions)
All users must have permission to read, write, modify.
Numbershark-public or Wordshark-public
(nshark-public or shark-public in early versions)
All users must have permission to read. Teachers/Administrators need access to read and write.
Numbershark-programs or wordshark-programs
(nshark-programs or shark-programs in early versions)
All users must have permission to read.
We advise that you make all these folders “hidden” as an additional measure of security
Paths:
The “Target” should point to the wordshark4nrun.exe or numbershark4nrun.exe file (earlier versions may be “wordshark3nrun.exe or nshark3nrun.exe or numbershark3nrun.exe)
The “Start-in” should point to the “shared” directory.
Please use a mapped drive address. We occasionally find that a network address does not work.
Contact Support if you still experience problems once permissions and paths appear to be correct.
