FAQ 7: Working with “Detailed Programs of Work”

The printed manual describes in some detail how to set up a "detailed program of work" for pupils to follow. This is a powerful feature, very useful for children who are less independent in their learning style. These are a selection of frequently asked questions relating to "detailed programs of work". Please email us if you have other related questions not covered below.

FAQ 7a : Is it possible for a pupil to be given different programs of work by different administrators?  This is designed to be very easy to do in version 4 onwards, where the child will see a red “choose teacher’s work” menu item.

In earlier versions:

Yes: If a child has been "Captured" by more than one administrator, each administrator may allocate one of their own programs of work to that child.

If a child has detailed programs of work from several administrators, then the child signs in as usual, presses F11, and then clicks on the program of work that they wish to follow at that time. The child can swap between programs freely.

FAQ 7b: Is it possible to set up a student with one detailed program of work without the need for either duplicating the program for the second administrator or needing to access the program through the first administrator's rights?

Yes: If the the first administrator "Admin1" creates a detailed program of work and allocates this to a child "Pupil1", then that child will have access to it. The second administrator does not have (or need) access to the program of work.

FAQ 7c: Another administrator has already set up a brilliant "detailed program of work". Can I make use of it for my own pupils?

Yes - though do ask your colleague first!

Most easily, see if your colleague will capture the pupils and allocate the course.

Otherwise, your colleague needs to give the course to a new student and make that student an administrator. You will then be able to use this new administrator's login and password for the purpose

We suggest you make the name of this new administrator something that relates to the course being set up - "Local names" rather than "Mrs Smith".

Taking this step by step:

a) ask your colleague to add a new student to their list (Admin / add and manage / add pupil), b) Your colleague must then allocate the detailed program to that pupil.
c) Your colleague then makes the new student an administrator: Admin / add and manage / Set up a new administrator. Type in the name of the new student. A warning "[name] exists. Should they become an administrator?" pops up. Click "Yes". Enter a suitable password.
d) You now sign on, using the name and password just created. Go to admin / add and manage / capture existing students.
e) Go to admin / add and manage / set up detailed work program. You will find the existing program on the right hand side, ready for allocating to students.
