Wordshark 3s.05 & Numbershark 3.05
Installation
Instructions
For
Apple Macintosh
Computers (OS X)
Please
take a short time to become familiar with the installation instructions for
your Apple Mac. Both programs install in a similar way: Throughout these instructions please
substitute “Numbershark 3” for “Wordshark 3s” as appropriate.
- Switch
your Mac on. Check that your
operating system is up to date. To do this: Go to top left, blue apple, click “Software
update” and install recommended updates. Our programs require OS X 10.2.8
or later.
- Insert your
single-user CD. You may find that your anti-virus program opens and scans
the CD. Please wait.
- A
Wordshark 3s CD icon will appear on your screen (“Finder”).
- Double-click
on the Wordshark 3s CD icon. The CD folder will open.
- Drag the
Wordshark 3s folder to a suitable location on your hard disk (normally
“Applications”) where you want to install.
- For Wordshark only: You may
also wish to drag to a convenient location the “KS3 word lists for
printing”. These are lists of key words for children aged 11-14 (school
years 7-9), arranged by school subject and topic.
- Navigate
to the newly installed Wordshark 3s folder. Inside it you can double-click
on the Wordshark 3s icon to launch the program. You may want to drag this
icon to the Dock, for easy future access.
- After a
few seconds, a blue screen with swimming sharks appears. You should hear a
“Hello!” If you do not, your
sound/speakers may need adjusting, or you may have a faulty soundcard
which will prevent the program from running.
- Turn to
page 5 of the Wordshark 3s manual [page
7 of the Numbershark manual] and follow the instructions for “First
Run”. Note particularly the “Administrator” section on page 12 [page 14 for Numbershark].
- Note –
When first prompted for a password, you will be able to see what you are
typing: Subsequent logins will just display stars.
- To close
down Wordshark 3s, press the red button (top left) in the usual way.
Additional Notes:
a)
The “Help” button at the top right hand side of
each game screen may be used instead of the Command+F1 key. Some laptops use fn+Command+F1 to access “Help”.
b)
This is the first Mac-compatible version. Please
note that the manual was written for PC users, and ignore “PC specific” items.
