Wordshark and Numbershark work in similar ways. This error messages applies to both programs.

This message, in Win7 or Vista, may instead appear as:  “You need to format the disk in drive [driveletter:] before you can use it”

ALSO SEE similar message “Please insert correct CD”  and “Insert the CD”

This message can simply mean that you have the wrong CD in the drive - perhaps a Wordshark disk when running Numbershark and vice versa, OR have two CD drives, and our program is looking at the CD in the other drive OR have two more disks of different releases (e.g. Wordshark 3s.03 and 3s.09).

Occasionally, it will occur even when you know you have only the correct CD in the drive.  This error message occurs most commonly when a later version of Wordshark or Numbershark has been installed “over the top of” an earlier version, without the earlier version being correctly uninstalled, OR the earlier version has been deleted rather than uninstalled. It infrequently occurs even after a correct uninstall, if there are other problems with the computer’s registry.

As a result, entries in the computer registry point to old locations of the program, and the program is unable to “find itself”.

We advise that earlier versions of Wordshark or Numbershark should be fully uninstalled before installing the latest version. The computer administrator should go to start / control panel / add and remove programs to do this.

If you think you are affected by this error, please contact Support, and ask for our “Registry Fix File”, if at all possible telling us which earlier version was on your computer.

In almost all cases, running the correct “registry fix file” will remove old entries in your registry quickly and safely, and enable the new version to run.
